It is sad that in the current economic and political climate environmental sustainability has become a little more than a clever marketing catchphrase. However this is not the case at Bago Vineyards where founders Jim and Kay Mobbs, longstanding members of the Hastings River region community, have implemented a wide range of innovative programs to reduce Bago Vineyards environmental footprint and make a positive return to the HastingsÂ
The programs are ever evolving and currently include:
- Sponsorship and support of local charities including, Sea Change Tree Change 2008 Calender, with all proceeds to the Fred Hollows Foundation and Lifeline on the Mid North coast.
- Supporters of Aussie Helpers www.Aussiehelpers.org.au a rural support team based in north Queensland
- Bago Vineyards’ first of its kind wine bottle return programme
- Where customers receive $1 off each bottle purchased with every bottled returned (conditions apply)
- State of the art solar heating for the winery and households.
- Rainforest regeneration of areas surrounding the vineyard and bordering on Broken Bago State Forest and the national parks listed Bago Bluff NP
- Onsite facilities for recycling of plastics, cardboard and glass
- The planting of thousands of native lilly pillies as part of the Bago Vineyards architecturally designed garden maze, Planted in 2006 to 2008
