Chambourcin

Chambourcin

Pronounced shom-bor-san

Bago Vineyards Chambourcin is matured in American oak barrels for twelve months in a combination of new, one and two year old barrels, before being bottled.  After bottling, the wine develops ripe plum and berry fruit aromas with a touch of spice. The oak is still dominant, however with time it integrates well into the wine giving it a smooth, rounded feel, whilst maintaining the fresh fruit flavours.

To fill out the middle palate, we have blended a touch of our newest red variety, Tannat with this latest Chambourcin vintage.  Our Chambourcin may be consumed young, and will mature well with medium term cellaring.

A great wine to match dark fleshed poultry and fish and the lighter meats like pork and light sauced lamb.

Bago Chambourcins are renowned for longevity with our oldest still drinking well after ten years.

Current Vintage:  2008

Price per bottle: $15.50

Merlot Chambourcin

Merlot Chambourcin

Bago Merlot Chambourcin is a blend of Merlot 60% and Chambourcin 40%. The Merlot softens the Chambourcin and gives an earlier drinking wine than the straight Chambourcin, The wine is still matured in oak barrels for twelve months but with the lower base acidity, the wine is softer and earlier drinking. The berry fruit character still dominates the aroma and vanilla flavours the palate.

Matched with duck, goat, lamb and even some of Australia's more exotic cuisine: roo, croc and emu.

This wine may cellar well up to 5 years.

Current Vintage:  2010

Price per bottle: $17.50

Petit Verdot

Petit Verdot

Pronounced P'tee Vair' doh

One of the newest wines to our range, this Bordeaux variety has a sweet floral aroma with violets predominating and a palate which is spicy. It produces a lingering effect with a soft mouth feel. We believe it will mature well in the bottle for at least a decade, but will lose some of its floral characters and become spicier with age.

Matched to spicy sausages, antipasto and the medium sauced meats.

Current Vintage:  2006

Price per bottle: $17.50

Bago Jazz Red

Jazz Red - Chilled Red

Based on our premium grape variety Chambourcin this wine portrays a strong berry fruit character with little tannins. This is due to Chambourcin's ability to give a strong crimson colour without fermentation of the grapes on the skins. The little skin contact with the juice before it is fermented gives minimal tannin extraction, just red juice to be fermented softly like a white wine.

Jazz red wine is a little sweeter than our traditional wines which enhances its ability to match foods like curries and spicy Asian dishes, it's a great summer BBQ red served chilled at 10 to 12 degrees. To be consumed with in 18 months of bottling.

Price per bottle: $13.00
