Welcome

Savagnin, Tannat and Chanel Paradisa

CHANEL PARADISA (Pope's Vine)

A rare white variety with an intriguing history but which is extremely difficult to produce mature grapes of quality. The fruit it yields is generally of a large size, and is similar in appearance to popular white table varieties.  We use this particular variety to produce a dessert style, in very small quantities.

TANNAT

A red variety only recently planted with tough skins originating from south-western France. Produces a long ageing wine, when young giving raspberry characters and intense colour.  Rich in tannins, this variety is used at  Bago Vineyards for blending into our Chambourcin, adding colour, tannin and filling out the middle palate.  We also use a small quantity in producing our tawny port, and small parcels remain in barrels, which we intend to release as an aged red at a later stage.

SAVAGNIN  (Formerly known in Australia as ALBARINO)

The Savagnin grape variety originated in eastern France and became confused with the Albarino variety. It was propagated in Australia as Albarino until 2009, when it was correctly identified as Savagnin.  The variety is closely related to White Traminer and Gewurtztraminer.  This tough-skinned variety produces bunches of small berry-sized fruit, and seems to cope with our humid summer conditions well.
